The UK Gambling Commission has published a consultation on the proposed changes to its Remote Gambling and Software Technical Standards. The latter provide the specific technical standards and features, as well as the security requirements that have been especially set for holders of remote gambling licenses and gambling software companies.
Such companies are required to meet these technical standards and rules in order to operate in compliance with the UK Gambling Commission’s regulatory standards.
The latest consultation on the matters of the RTS is aimed at providing customers not only with fairness, but also with clear guidance on various gambling products. In addition, the Gambling Commission is focused on implementing a regulatory framework that is both efficient and proportionate to the overall condition of the gambling industry in the country.
The UK Gambling Commission’s Remote Gambling and Software Technical Standards have been changed a bit since the regulatory body first released them in 2007. Back in February 2015, the gambling regulatory authority officially announced some changes to its technical standards, which were deployed in two streams.
The first date on which the changes game into effect was October 31st 2015. The amendments that were made a year ago included changes in the time periods for offering financial limits. Another change made at the first date was regarding customer limits which could be increased only in case that the customer has taken positive action to confirm their request once again. There were also some changes which were made in the Commission’s License Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) in regards to the remote gambling systems.
The second part of the changes implemented by the UK Gambling Commission was deployed at the end of April 2016. The amendments made then related to auto-play functionalities and to the implementation of customer-led reality-checks.
The newly-published consultation document provides some proposed changes in the technical standards for online gambling and software providers, including the supplementary online betting license holders. The Remote Gambling and Software Technical Standards of the Commission have turned out as the major tool used by the UK gambling regulator in order to guarantee that online gambling operations in the country are fair to customers and ensure their transparency.
The proposed amendments come to require from in-play betting software to provide customers with the chance to decide whether to automatically accept price changes that could occur after they have placed their wagers. Moreover, poker brands that offer online gaming options would probably face some new rules when it comes to the funds they confiscate from players. There are also proposed changes on the third-part software permitted by some operators on their websites.
